The Lion Family is Here for You!

We are living in crazy times right now – and we are really missing spring rugby. But PSU Rugby is so much more than matches and seasons. The motto of Penn State Rugby is “Building Champions and Shaping Futures.” Hard work and dedication to others is what enables our athletes to excel on the pitch after they leave Happy Valley. As Jay Mathias ’14 stated when informing the Alumni of his PPE fundraiser, growing up around the program (Jay is the son of long-time supporter and coach Jim Mathias) and playing rugby for Penn State taught him that “the Penn State bond transcends time and distance and that we support each other through the good times and the bad.” This is why we decided to feature our Alumni who are essential employees, running coronavirus-related fundraisers, and own small businesses and how to support them. We have over 1,000 people in our database. We’ve done incredible things in the past, and now is another opportunity to show that the Lion Family really is the best family! The Penn State Rugby Booster Club appreciates all the essential workers, homeschooling while working parents, small business owners and coaches who are navigating uncertain times. Remember to reach out to your teammates for support as they are always “with you!”

Spring Rugby Season Canceled

Dear Alumni and Fans,

With the health and safety of our athletes, parents and supporters being of the utmost importance, the decision has been made, department wide at Penn State, to suspend all practices and competitions for the remainder of the Spring Season. With the constantly evolving situation surrounding the COVID-19 virus it was felt that this was the best course of action.

We want to thank everyone for their support this past year. The teams were looking primed and ready for successful Spring Seasons and a nice send off for the senior class.  We hope that everyone stays safe and healthy as this situation unfolds around the world.

We will now begin prepping for a big 2020/2021 season . We look forward to seeing everyone at  Friends and Family Reunion Weekend on September 12 if not before.

All the Best,

Justin Hundley

Level the Playing Field

The Teams Need Your Help to Level the Playing Field

In the last 5 years, many collegiate rugby programs have been elevated to varsity status accessing the support and resources associated with this designation. While Penn State provides a lot of support to rugby, the men and women’s teams no longer compete on a level playing field. In the fall, the Booster Club launched a new fundraising campaign to try to address some of the challenges that face the program.
