Women's Match Results 9/22/17 & 9/23/17

Women go 1 and 1 during first weekend away from Happy Valley

The Nittany Lions headed to Rutgers for a Friday night kick off before taking on Quninnipiac University Saturday afternoon.  The team split the games winning Friday but dropping Saturday’s contest to Quinnipiac, making the team's record 3-2.

Rutgers put in a very physical performance forcing Penn State’s young side to step up at the point of contact.  Alex Weisser lead off the scoring and tries followed by Azniv (Az) Nalbandian, Zhayer (Z) Legrand, Ali Wicks, Mindy McKeehan, Whitney Richter, Madison Curtis, Katie Sayer, Maggie Carly, Corina Kaiser, and Claudia Norton.  Rutgers dotted down 3 times making the final score 74-17.

The team then headed to Quinnipiac for one of their toughest games of the season Saturday morning after a wonderful breakfast hosted by the Fuery family. Momentum swung back and forth making for a very exciting match.  The forward pack started off the scoring with a driving lineout and QU answered back with a break down the edge and try in the corner tying the score 5-5.  The Nittany Lions then put in 3 unanswered tries by Alex Weisser, Maggie Carly, and Sophie Pyrz to take a 20-5 lead.  QU would put in one more try before the teams went into halftime PSU 20, QU 10.  Early in the second half, QU scored two tries and converted one of them to take the lead 22-20.  PSU answered back with a try and conversion for another lead change 27-22.  Unfortunately the Nittany Lions were unable to hold on and would concede 2 more QU tries late in the 2nd half to lose the game 36-27.

The Nittany Lions will take this loss into another challenging matchup vs Notre Dame College kicking off Friday night at 6:30pm in State College.
