Penn State Rugby Foundation Announces Doyle as Executive Director

The Penn State Rugby Foundation is a newly formed 501c3 dedicated to providing long-term, sustainable support to the Penn State Men’s and Women’s rugby teams.  With the support of 20 Founding Members the Foundation has hired Chance Doyle as its first ever Executive Director.

“We have ambitious goals for the Foundation,” said Steve Hynes, the Foundation’s Chairman.  “Chance’s rugby background and his experience with non-profits give him the ideal background for the role.”

Chance Doyle wholeheartedly believes in long-shots and realizing personal potential via new opportunities. He was born in rural Alabama, the son of two parents without high school educations. When he was living in New Orleans as a teenager, Chance lost his home and was displaced by Hurricane Katrina, which led him to be fostered by a family in Washington D.C. There, he soon took his first steps on a rugby pitch. Through rugby, Chance Doyle earned a scholarship to Life University and became the first person in his family to graduate from college.  He continued his playing career after college, making multiple all-star teams and also playing a season in New Zealand.

Chance eventually returned to New Orleans, where he served his community as the program director for a non-profit organization, which providied life skills, job skills, work placement, and ongoing advocacy. Next, he joined USA Rugby in a national development role to better connect with the sport to which he attributed so much of his success. Now Chance aims to make an impact with Penn State Rugby.

"It brings me great joy to be a part of The Penn State Rugby Foundation,” Doyle said. “Together, we will help the young women and men of Penn State Rugby achieve consistent levels of success on the rugby field and fulfill their potential throughout their lives."

Doyle will start immediately remotely from his home in New Orleans but plans to move to State College for the rugby season.  He will work with the Penn State Rugby Booster club to help enhance all levels of fundraising for the rugby program.

“We understand that this will be a challenging environment in which to fundraise,” said Hynes.  “However, we believe that the Penn State Rugby community is ready to help us create a bright future for the teams, and the fact that 20 Founders have already stepped up demonstrates the passion of our alumni, parents, and friends.”

Since 1962, Penn State Rugby has been providing students the opportunity to compete at the highest level of college rugby while building the skills to make them successful off the field. The Penn State Rugby Foundation’s goal is to guarantee that this opportunity exists forever.  Click here for more information.
