Event Recap: 2019 Annual PSU Rugby Friends & Family Reunion Weekend

This past weekend over 300 members of the PSU Rugby family – parents, alumni, coaches and friends – came together to celebrate the Program that has meant so much to so many for almost 6 decades.

The weekend kicked off with the Annual PSU Rugby Golf Outing on Friday. Twenty-eight golfers had a great time and raised over $1,200 for the program. Congrats to Terry Ryland for winning the Closest to the Pin and Cesare Coscia for winning the Longest Drive. Congrats also to the group that won the round, which included our organizers, Tim Antoian and Christopher Wolff, as well as Justin Lotter and Mike Smith. Thanks to Justin Lotter for sponsoring our awesome trophies and Ryan Goulding for his sponsorship as well. The Golf Outing keeps getting bigger and better, and we hope to see even more people out next year!

On Saturday, we mixed it up from previous years by watching the Men’s and Women’s teams take on some challenging opponents (instead of begging our Alumni to boot up!). The Women lost a tough match against Life and the Men came out on top against Dartmouth (see both match reports below). The fans were out in full force, and after a very busy day at the merchandise table, we know that everyone is outfitted for the rest of the season!

After the matches we had a great dinner catered by Harrison’s during which the coaches shared player accolades, season forecasts, and goals for the future of the program. We welcomed the newest Lifetime Members, Dr. Katie Gloyer ’03, Matt Boccuti ’09, and Diane Dabulas. Board members Kristen “Oohrah” Miller ’09 and Greg “Wombat” Gooch ’99 spoke about plans for supporting the program in the future via both the newly formed Foundation and the upcoming launch of the Booster Club’s 2 year “Level the Playing Field” Campaign. We raised close to $3,000 from the silent auction, and supporters pledged more than $40,000 for the “Level the Playing Field” Campaign and the '99 Men's team pledged to raise $99,000 over the next 3 years!!
Stay tuned for more details on how you can support Penn State Rugby!

Thank you to the Booster Club Board and coaches, who helped to organize everything for the weekend, to those who donated silent auction items, and to everyone who showed up to support the teams. We are so lucky to be a part of this incredible rugby family and we hope to see everyone at future events.
