THON 2018!As Feb. 16 approaches, Penn State Rugby prepares for their fourth year participating in THON. For the third consecutive year, the team will have two dancers, Tess Feury and Brendan McCabe, as representatives in the 46 hour dance marathon.

Throughout the year, Penn State Rugby has partaken in THON events, such as the THON 5k, 100 Days ‘til THON and Family Carnival.  They have also held fundraisers such as THONvelopes, restaurant fundraisers and Yankee Candle fundraisers.

Penn State Rugby also has a donation link for online donations, which can be found here. Their fundraising goal for this year is $10,000.

“Although THON is a yearlong fundraiser, the culmination of it on THON weekend is truly remarkable and eye opening to the impact Penn State students are having on these Four Diamond families,” Feury said.

In addition to raising money for THON, the team is paired with the Logan McCarthy family. When Logan was 1 year old, he was diagnosed with stage four Neuroblastoma.

During his treatment at Hershey Medical Center, his family was given the opportunity to be paired with a Penn State organization as a source of additional support. The family has been paired with Penn State Rugby for the past three years.

THON 2018!“Logan has truly become a part of our Penn State Rugby family by attending a few games and practices, participating in events such as the THON 5k and laser tag with the team, and keeping contact weekly with our team,” Feury said.

Penn State Rugby also participates in the Athlete Hour and Pep Rally, which take place during THON weekend.  Different athletic teams get the chance to do a choreographed dance on stage and play with the Four Diamonds families.

Even though Penn State Rugby finds it difficult to be fully involved in THON due to a demanding team schedule, they still find creative ways to do so, especially with the McCarthy family.

“The best part about participating in THON is being able to see how the Penn State Rugby community has impacted Logan and his family’s life,” Feury said. “Knowing that we provide them with a lifelong support system is a very rewarding feeling.”

To support Tess and Brendan during THON weekend, we encourage you to send them Dancer Mail. These are letters that are distributed throughout the weekend to help keep morale high. Letters must be submitted by Feb 6 and addressed to:
